On Wednesday, Nigeria has loose Rights to host the 2027 African cup of Nation (AFCON), while Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania clinch the hosting rights.
This comes after the Minister of Sports Development Senator John Owan Enoh arrived in Egypt on Tuesday with representatives of the Nigeria Football Federation in a bid to host AFCON in 2027. Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania got the Nod for the 2027 AFCON, after The Confederation of African Football (CAF) named Morocco hosts for the 2025 AFCON.
Morocco was declared winner of the hosting rights after getting 22 votes ahead of Algeria, Zambia. Nigeria and benin republic withdrew before voting commences.
The Executive Committee of CAF at their voting at the Cairo Marriott Hotel in Egypt on Wednesday announced the North Africans and East Africans as hosts for the 2025, and 2027 editions respectively.
Joint Bid by Nigeria and Republic of benin to clinch the hosting rights was not successful.
It will be recalled that Nigeria hosted the African Cup Of Nation (AFCON) in 1980 and co-hosted with Ghana in 2000.
