The Ogun State Police Command has arrested Esther Hamidu a credit officer of a microfinance bank who ran away with customers’ contributions money going to N1.97m.
The Pandora Newspaper gathered that Hamidu escaped with the daily contribution of the bank’s customers which spanned between March and December 2023.
Our correspondent learnt that a branch manager of the bank in Abeokuta, the state capital, who discovered that the contribution had not been deposited, reported the matter to the police.
After several failed attempts to make the suspect remit the contribution, Hamidu was said to have disappeared into thin air despite police efforts to arrest her.
However, a source in the Ogun state police command who pleaded anonymity said the suspect had been apprehended.
Confirming her arrest to our correspondent on Saturday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, said the suspect was apprehended in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, on Friday.
“Yes, she has been arrested. She has been transferred from Ibadan, where she was arrested, to Ogun State. She has confessed to the crime. She could not explain what she did with the money,” Odutola said
