In a significant legislative move, the Yobe State House of Assembly passed the 2024 finance and appropriation bills totaling N216.95 billion for recurrent and capital services. The approval came after the adoption of the report from the standing committee on finance and appropriation.
According to Hon. Buba Ibrahim Kalallawa, the committee chairman, the 2024 budget allocates over N96.130 billion (44%) for recurrent expenditure and over N120.870 billion (56%) for capital expenditure. To ensure a realistic budget estimate, the House reduced the proposed budget size by fifty million Naira.
The budget’s focus includes improving commercial activities, providing agricultural inputs for job opportunities, addressing basic infrastructure needs, and completing ongoing projects. The committee emphasized the importance of internally generated revenue agencies remitting funds promptly to support the state government in implementing the 2024 proposed budget and delivering more dividends of democracy to the people.
